Charlotte grew up on a small farm in Alabama, married, raised three children and had a 30-year career as a physical therapist. During all this time she never thought of herself as artistic … though her “closet creativity” produced a string of hand-made gifts for family and friends.
In the late 1990’s Charlotte volunteered to help a friend with the creation of some decorative stepping stones. Much to her surprise Charlotte soon found herself making more and more stones --- some to give away and some to keep. Next came a flurry of clay creations --- hand built and Raku fired. Though family & friends praised her work, Charlotte continued to deny that she was an “artist.”
In 2005 Charlotte and her husband relocated to Madison. With the move came free time --- and an urge to create that seemed to border on obsession. First it was 3-D creations of colored glass and mirrors. Then came shadow boxes … framed paper and fabric creations ... note cards with fabric insets … silver jewelry …oils and water colors. Charlotte’s enthusiasm continues. Stay tuned to find out what happens next.
As a child Charlotte enjoyed creating “art” from scraps and as an adult she is at it again. Much of her art is playful and rather tongue-in-cheek. After years in a healing profession Charlotte also seeks to find a connection to wholeness and healing in her work. She named her business “Inner Pieces.” Playfulness + healing + scraps = Charlotte’s gift.
